Thus, after mango and dragon fruit, rambutan is the third fruit to be exported to New Zealand.

Mr. Hoang Trung, Director General of the Plant Protection Department, said that the two countries have officially signed the program to ensure the export of rambutan.

Specifically, rambutan planted in the garden must be prepared with a registration dossier and the Plant Protection Department will issue a code number after meeting requirements on methods of cultivation, control of harmful organisms, production in accordance with the prescribed procedures and use of plant protection medicines on the principle of "4 rights" (the right medicine, the right dose, the right time, the right way).

In addition, to ensure compliance with New Zealand’s requirements for packaging and labeling, packaging facilities will be required to obtain a code from the Plant Protection Department.

In addition, the Plant Protection Department shall also control and grant Practicing certificates for treatment of plant quarantine subjects for irradiation facilities for the purpose of ensuring traceability, meeting the processing requirements for rambutan exported to New Zealand.

To date, Vietnamese rambutan has been present in most major markets such as USA, EU and ASEAN. Only Australia, Japan and South Korea have not completed the dossiers for rambutan.

Earlier, during a visit to New Zealand by Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc in March 2018, the two sides agreed to open markets for each other's products, especially the fruits and rice of Vietnam. The two sides also reached an agreement to support each other to improve the quality of products.
