7 billion-dollar export items of Vietnam in April 2023

Accumulated over the first four months of 2023, Vietnam's total import and export turnover is estimated at USD 210.79 billion, a decrease of 13.6% over the same period last year. In which, export turnover of goods reached USD 108.57 billion, a decrease of 11.8%; imports reached USD 102.22 billion, a decrease of 15.4%. Vietnam has an estimated trade surplus of USD 1.51 billion in April and a trade surplus of USD 6.35 billion in the first four months of 2023.
In April 2023, Vietnam's merchandise exports are estimated at USD 27.54 billion, decreased by 7.3% over the previous month and decreased by 17.1% over the same period in 2022. Export turnover of goods of the domestic economic sector reached USD 7.12 billion, decreased by 8.6%; FDI sector (including crude oil) reached USD 20.42 billion, decreased by 6.9%.
Vietnam has 7 export items with a turnover of USD billion in April 2023 with a total value of USD 17.75 billion, accounting for 64.4% of the total export turnover of goods in the month.
Computers, electronics and components are the items with the largest export turnover with USD 4.1 billion. The second place is phones and components with USD 4 billion; followed by machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts with USD 3.2 billion; textiles and garments reached USD 2.4 billion; footwear reached USD 1.8 billion; vehicle spare parts reached USD 1.2 billion; timber and wood products reached USD 1.05 billion.
Among agricultural products, rice is the item with the highest export value with USD 574 million. Coffee ranked second with USD 474 million; followed by vegetables with USD 410 million.
Of the total 34 main export items (as announced by GSO), 27 items recorded a decrease in turnover compared to the same period in 2022. Petroleum is the commodity with the largest decrease with 59%; followed by crude oil with 37%; iron and steel with 34.7%; timber and wood products with 34.6%.
In contrast, rice is the commodity with the highest increase in export turnover with 108% over the same period in 2022. Followed by coffee with 30.7% increase; vegetables with 27.8% increase; vehicles and spare parts with 27% increase. Notably, 4/7 items with positive growth belonged to the group of agricultural products, including vegetables and fruits, cashew nuts, coffee and rice.
Vietnam's merchandise import turnover in April 2023 is estimated at USD 26.03 billion, decreased by 8.1% over the previous month and decreased by 20.5% over the same period in 2022. In which, the economic sector domestic reached USD 9.13 billion, decreased by 13%; FDI sector reached USD 16.9 billion, decreased by 5.2%.
In April 2023, there were 3 imported goods from Vietnam with a turnover of USD 1 billion or more, of which computers, electronics and components reached USD 6.1 billion; other machinery, equipment, tools and spare parts reached USD 3.25 billion; fabric reached USD 1.2 billion.
