18/05/2023
Along with rice, Indonesia continues to spend a lot of money buying Vietnam's coffee in the first four months of this year.
According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Customs, in April, Vietnam exported more than 6,630 tons of coffee to the Indonesian market, earning USD 19.42 million, an increase of nearly 220% in volume and more than 275% in value compared to April 2022.
As of the end of April this year, Vietnam earned nearly USD 58.7 million from exporting 20,320 tons of coffee to Indonesia, an increase of 255% in volume and 228% in value over the same period last year.
Indonesia is Vietnam's coffee import market that recorded the highest growth in the first four months of this year. Accordingly, this country is the top 10 largest coffee export markets of Vietnam.
In April 2023, the average export price of Vietnam's coffee reached USD 2,437 per ton, an increase of 6.3% over the previous month and an increase of 5.9% over the same period in 2022. Accumulated over the first four months of the year, the average coffee export price of our country reached USD 2,271/ton, an increase of 1.2% over the same period last year.
Recently, Indonesia massively bought Vietnamese rice. In only 4 months of this year, rice exports to this market earned USD 149 million, a sudden increase of 2,514% compared to the same period last year.
In 2022, rice exports to Indonesia only reached USD 58 million. This is a very modest figure in the total rice export turnover of USD 3.45 billion of the country. However, with a turnover increase of 2,514% in the first four months of this year, Indonesia for the first time in history has become the third largest customer of Vietnamese rice, just behind the Philippines and China.
At the end of March, Vietnam trade office in Indonesia, citing information from the Indonesian Ministry of Trade that the country would import 2 million tons of rice for national stockpile in 2023.
The national stockpile of imported rice will be used for the rice price stabilization program, supporting 21.53 million poor households and for other purposes. The National Logistics Agency - Preum Bulog - continues to be designated as the import focal point, of which 500,000 tons will be made as soon as possible.
In addition to rice and coffee, Vietnam's seafood and vegetable exports to this market also tended to increase over the same period last year.
