Vietnam's digital economy is forecast to be the strongest in Southeast Asia

Google, Temasek and Bain & Company have forecast that Vietnam will be the country with the strongest digital economic growth in Southeast Asia in the 2022-2025 period.

Accordingly, Vietnam's digital economy could reach USD 49 billion by 2025 with an average growth rate of 31% per year for the 2022-2025 period. In which, e-commerce increases from USD 5 billion in 2019 to USD 14 billion in 2022 and is forecast to reach USD 32 billion in 2025 with a growth rate of 37%.

According to data from the Ministry of Information and Communications, the proportion of SMEs using digital platforms reached more than 30%, exceeding the set plan of 30%. The proportion of value added of the digital economy in GDP in 2022 is estimated to be more than 14%, while in 2021 it is estimated to reach more than 12%; The number of digital technology enterprises is estimated at 70,000 enterprises, an increase of nearly 6.2 thousand enterprises compared to December 2021, reaching the rate of 0.7 enterprises per 1,000 people.

Resolution 01 of the Government defines 2023 as "The Year of Digital Data, creating and taking advantage of data to create new value", complete the development of national databases, effectively implement the Project on developing the application of data on population, electronic identification and authentication for national digital transformation in the 2021 - 2025 period, with a vision to 2030.

Build and develop national, regional and local data center infrastructure for synchronous connection, creating a foundation for the development of the digital economy and digital society. Focus on developing synchronous and modern information and telecommunications infrastructure, ensuring information safety and security, creating a foundation for national digital transformation, promoting the development of the digital economy and digital society. Develop digital infrastructure to reach the advanced level of ASEAN region; broadband Internet covers 100% of communes.

Also according to the assessment of the European Digital Competitiveness Center (ECDC) in 2021, Vietnam made the greatest progress in digital transformation thinking in the East Asia and Pacific region.

Vietnam with the goal of having a digital economy accounting for 30% of GDP by 2030, the Prime Minister of Vietnam issued Decision No. 749/QD-TTg approving the "National Digital Transformation Program to 2025, orientation towards 2030”.
